The defect

BMW Motorrad has ascertained that the screws securing the side-stand pivot mount can work loose. Due to a process fault, the part of the frame where the side-stand pivot mount sits was not adequately cleaned.

The hazard

There is a possibility of traces of foreign matter remaining between the frame and the pivot mount and in the threads for the pivot-mount threaded fasteners. This can result in the pivot mount of the side stand working loose. If this situation is not noticed the motorcycle can topple when propped on the stand.

The remedy

Consumers should contact an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer, or call the BMW Group Australia Customer Interaction Centre on Freecall 1 800 813 299.
