The defect

During maintenance work on brake discs or wheel changes, threaded fasteners might have been overtightened to torques not in compliance with the values set out in the repair instructions or operating instructions.

The hazard

Cracks in the wheel flange can occur as a consequence of overtightening of the threaded fasteners. Under certain conditions, this may lead to fractures of the bolted joint and failure of the rear wheel flange, posing an accident hazard to the rider and other road users.

The remedy
