The defect

Due to improper heat treatment of some drive chain outer plates, some of the plates may have excessive hardness. This may lead to fracturing of the outer plates, causing the drive chain to fly off while in motion.

The hazard

If the drive chain outer plates fail, the drive chain may fly off while in motion, causing the rider to lose the ability to slow down using engine braking or to accelerate.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail. Owners are advised to present their machine at their nearest Honda dealer for modification.
