The defect

If the engine is operated at high revs in an unloaded condition (either Park or Neutral) residual oil that may accumulate in the engine intake system may be drawn into the engine and result in an engine over run condition.

The hazard

If the engine goes into an over run condition, this may cause the engine to run at high RPM uncontrollably until the engine either fails or is damaged. This may pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users.

The remedy

Mazda Australia will contact all affected customers. Owners of affected vehicles will be advised to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for a revised PCM calibration to be installed at no charge.Owners who require further information should contact Mazda Customer Support on 1800 034 411.
