The defect
Affected vehicles may be fitted with a Takata NADI 5-AT driver airbag inflator that could allow moisture to enter the unit and degrade the airbag propellant. If this occurs, the properties of the propellant may be changed so that the propellant does not react as intended during a collision, causing mis-deployment of the airbag.
The hazard
If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision, the airbag inflator could rupture, causing sharp metal fragments to enter the vehicle cabin at high speed, killing or injuring vehicle occupants. There is also a risk that the airbag may underinflate in a collision and may not protect the driver as intended.
The remedy
Owners of affected vehicles should stop driving their vehicle immediately and contact Mazda Australia www.mazda.com.au or call Mazda Australia Customer Support on 1800 034 411 to organise their free urgent vehicle inspection.Vehicle inspection and alternate transport options will be arranged directly with the customer. If a recalled Eunos vehicle is identified as containing the affected type of driver airbag inflator, Mazda Australia will replace the airbag inflator component free of charge.Owners who are unsure if their vehicle is affected by this recall can also use the Mazda VIN look-up tool at https://www.mazda.com.au/recalls/ or call Mazda Australia Customer Support on 1800 034 411.
