The defect

If the electric water pump in the cooling system for the hybrid drive system fails, the warning lamp will be turned on and the water temperature may rise. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, in an extreme case, the overheat protection control may operate and the engine and traction motor will stop.

The hazard

The loss of motive power due to powertrain shut down may pose an accident hazard.

The remedy

Owners of vehicles within the affected VIN range will soon be advised to contact their Infiniti Retail Centre to have the hybrid powertrain control module reprogrammed with revised protection logic. The reprogramming will be at no cost to owners.
