The defect

In a frontal collision, the lower longitudinal crash beam in the luggage compartment area could penetrate the bulkhead wall at the lower cross body component.

The hazard

If the longitudinal crash beam penetrates the bulkhead, there is an increased risk of the fuel tank being damaged, leading to fuel leakage. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a risk of fire.

The remedy
