The defect

The Skid Control Electronic Control Unit may incorrectly identify a small increase in circuit resistance of the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) motor as an open circuit.If this occurs, the EPB warning light will illuminate and the EPB may not work.

The hazard

If the vehicle is parked on an incline with an inoperative parking brake and in a shift position other than “Park” (automatic transmission), or in “N” (manual transmission), the vehicle could move, increasing the possibility of a collision.

The remedy

Affected owners will be contacted by direct mail. Owners should contact their nearest Toyota dealer to arrange for an inspection and repair of the vehicle.
