The defect
It has been found that out of specification adjustments can be made to the tie rods during a wheel alignment. This can cause them to be adjusted to an unsafe thread engagement between the tie rod and the steering rack.
The hazard
The unsafe thread engagement between the tie rod and the rack may cause steering vibration, which may pose a hazard to the driver.
The remedy
Consumers will be contacted by direct mail. Consumers should contact their nearest dealer or authorised agent to arrange an appointment to have the tie rods inspected. If they are found to be outside of specification, a wheel alignment will be done to return them to specification.Alternatively, consumers can contact Performax International to arrange for a third party repairer to inspect the vehicle and do a wheel alignment if required.Consumers can call 1800 737 367 or 07 3085 0110 for further information.
