The defect
The vacuum pump which supports brake assistance (brake boost) may become damaged under certain engine start conditions caused by the engine management software. This may cause a reduction in braking performance.

The hazard
A reduction of braking performance will increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.
The remedy
Owners of affected vehicle will be contacted by Toyota and asked to make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer. The rectification involves the installation of revised engine management software. Rectification is free of charge.
