The defect

It has been established that micro-cracks may have been introduced in the bent portion of the rear axle U-bolt during the manufacturing process. When vehicles fitted with the affected bolts are operated in a high corrosion environment the corrosion developed within these cracks may result in the failure of the u-bolt.
