The defect

When the gear selector is set to the “park” position, the parking pawl may not engage and therefore the parking mechanism may not operate properly. In this case (assuming the parking brake has not been applied), the vehicle may roll (depending on parking condition e.g. if parked on an incline). For the sake of clarity, this issue does not affect proper operation of the hand brake and if the hand brake is applied the car will not roll.
