The defect

The gasket of the timing chain tensioner may have been manufactured out of specification causing an ineffective gasket seal for engine oil, which may result in a leakage of engine oil onto the road.

The hazard

If the oil leakage reaches a certain amount, the engine may stop, or there may be a risk of a potential fire by the presence of an ignition source. This may pose a hazard to the occupants of the vehicle and other road users.

The remedy

Owners of vehicles within the affected VIN range will soon be advised to contact their Infiniti Retail Centre to have the gasket of the timing chain tensioner replaced. The rectification will be at no cost to owners.
