The defect

The engine may not start, or may cut out without warning. If the engine cuts out, the vehicle will lose brake power assistance and Power Assisted Steering (PAS) will also be lost, with the vehicle requiring increased steering effort. If the vehicle is fitted with air suspension system, the system may reduce the vehicle to its lowest ride height position.

The hazard

If the engine cuts out during use this poses an accident hazard to the driver and other road users.

The remedy

Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicle to a preferred Authorised Retailer who will replace the engine Crank Position Sensor.
