The defect
The vehicles are equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) assembly that uses a torque converter to transfer engine power from the engine to the transmission. There is a possibility that, due to an error in the manufacturing process, some of the torque converters may have been inadequately assembled.
The hazard
If the vehicle is frequently operated in higher load conditions, such as under rapid acceleration from a low speed, the torque converter may fail and potentially cause a loss of motive power. Loss of motive power while driving could increase the risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants or other road users. In the event of a serious accident this may result in death.
The remedy
Toyota will advise by recall notification letter to the registered owners last known address requesting the owner make an appointment at their preferred Toyota Dealer for replacement of the Torque Converter and CVT Assembly free of charge.Consumers who require more information can contact their preferred Toyota Dealer or contact the Toyota Recall Assist Helpline on 1800 987 366 (Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm AEDT).
