Verify before you act. Recall details and remedies can change. Our database is updated regularly but may not reflect the most recent revisions. Always confirm with vehiclerecalls.gov.au or your vehicle manufacturer before acting on the information below. Read our full disclaimer.

The defect

The software calibration for fuel cut-off functionality in the engine control module (ECM) and the transmission control module (TCM) is too sensitive.

The hazard

During city driving and when the driver is braking and/or releasing the accelerator pedal, the engine idle speed may drop resulting in a sudden engine stop. If this condition occurs, the driver will be able to restart the vehicle and continue to drive. However, when the driver tries to restart the engine and puts the gear shifter in 'D' or 'R', the driver must depress the accelerator pedal further than normal in order to put the vehicle in motion. During this time, tthe driver might find the gear engagement harsh and the operation of the transmission noisy.

The remedy

Contact your authorised Volvo dealer to have an upgraded software package dowloaded into the Engine Control Module (ECM).
