The defect

Due to a software fault in the vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) a loss of motive power may occur while driving. If this should happen, warning lights would illuminate and the vehicle’s hybrid system would shut down.

The hazard

A loss of motive power could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death of vehicle occupants and/or other road users.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Toyota and asked to make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer for rectification, free of charge. The rectification involves reprogramming of the vehicle's hybrid ECU.
