The defect

The pivot mount of the relay lever on the rear spring strut can become stiff on account of corrosion. This can be the result of moisture penetrating the assembly (e.g. road spray, water from cleaning the motorcycle with steam cleaner/power hose, riding in winter, severe dirtying).

The hazard

The problem can progress to the stage at which the relay lever might break. The possibility of a safety-critical situation occurring could not then be excluded.

The remedy

A complete repair set must be installed on each motorcycle in the VIN range affected. Simply replacing the spray-protection clip does not suffice, even if the motorcycle is already fitted with a relay lever bearing the updated part number.
