The defect

Due to a manufacturing issue, the compression springs of the seat locking mechanisms in the third row may not have been installed correctly. In the event of an accident or hard braking, unrestrained luggage could become loose and the rear seat also could collapse towards the passengers.

The hazard

In the event of an accident or hard breaking, the loose items in the luggage area could transform into lethal projectiles resulting in injury or death to vehicle occupants.

The remedy

All known affected owners will be contacted by BMW Group Australia Ltd or a BMW dealer. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their nearest authorised BMW Dealer directly www.bmw.com.au/dealers or call the BMW Australia Recall Hotline on 1800 243 675 to have all compression springs on the backrests of the third-row seating inspected for correct installation and rectification, free of charge.
