The defect

The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. This may result in a no start condition, engine hesitation, abnormal shifting or reduced propulsion prior to engine failure.Note: The engine light warning may appear on the instrument cluster, consumers of affected vehicles are advised to pay attention to any abnormal knocking noise from the engine.

The hazard

A loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by General Motors Australia and New Zealand Pty Ltd requesting to contact their local dealer to have the engine inspected, repaired and or replaced, free of charge.
