The defect

Due to a manufacturing defect, the front passenger and/or driver seatbelts may not meet the required specifications. As a result, the seatbelt(s) may not operate as intended in the event of an accident.

The hazard

In the event of an accident, if the seat belt(s) does not operate as intended, the occupant may not receive the full protection of the seatbelt system. This could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by BMW Group Australia asking them to schedule an appointment with their preferred MINI dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge.
