The defect
The software in the powertrain control unit may not operate as intended. The engine warning light may not activate to warn the driver of the fault. A reset of the control unit might take place while driving.
The hazard
If the reset of the control unit takes place during an ECO stop, the engine may not start again automatically. In addition, the engine may lose power and the vehicle might coast down whilst in motion. Unexpected engine failure may result in an accident and injury to occupants of the vehicle and other road users.
