The defect

On all affected vehicles faulty signals can be generated in the airbag control unit because of a fault in the production of an internal acceleration sensor.

The hazard

In the case of an accident the airbag may not deploy as designed and therefore may not reduce injury to a passenger.

The remedy

A letter is being sent to affected owners of the vehicles. For further information, customers can contact their local Volkswagen Authorised Service Centre or contact Volkswagen Customer care on 1800 504 076.
