The defect

There have been several occurrences where the support bracket on the oil filler tube of the Caterpillar C12 engine in the International 7600 has failed causing part of the bracket to break away. Due to the proximity of the bracket to the steering shaft, there is a risk that the broken section of the bracket can foul with the steering shaft. The effect of the bracket fouling with the steering shaft can include loss of steering control as the steering shaft could jam.
