The defect

Bearing surface on some steering mitre gears may fail prematurely. The steering mitre gear supplier has now enhanced the bearing design for greater durability.

The hazard

A failure of the bearing surfaces, should it occur, may be (but is not always) signalled by noises emanating from the steering column area when rotating the steering wheel and can lead to an increase in steering effort by the driver or, in very limited cases, inhibit steering wheel movement. If the defect occurs, the vehicle may pose an accident hazard to the driver and other road users.

The remedy

Top priority vehicle owners will be contacted without delay by the closest authorised IVECO dealer and by IVECO Trucks Australia Ltd. A letter will also be sent via registered mail to all owners of affected vehicles.
