The defect
Due to a manufacturing defect, diodes may have been soldered to the printed circuit board, instead of transistors, in accelerator pedals during assembly. In the event of voltage peaks, the diode may become damaged and the accelerator pedal sensor may fail. This failure can result in a lack of throttle response and cause the vehicle to coast to a stop. In the case of a failure of the accelerator pedal, the cruise control function may also be deactivated.Note: The function of the brakes, illumination and warning lamps remain ensured in the case of the occurrence of damage.
The hazard
A sudden loss of motive power while driving and/or a loss of cruise control function could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.
The remedy
Owners of affected vehicle can contact their authorised Daimler Commercial Vehicle Dealership as soon as possible have the work carried out, free of charge.
