The defect

Due to a software program error, the Battery Management System software may cause the high voltage battery to overheat and/or emit smoke.

If left unrepaired, this may result in a potential battery or vehicle fire whilst the vehicle is being recharged and/or in use. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.
