The defect

Due to a software issue, the brake lights may not illuminate as intended when the service brakes are automatically applied during an Active Brake Assist (AEB) activation.

The hazard

If the brake lamps do not operate as intended, it may increase the risk of an accident causing serious injuries or death to vehicle occupants and/or road users.Vehicles are not compliant with Australian Design Rule (ADR) 13/00 - Installation of Lighting and Light Signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles should contact their preferred Western Star dealer to arrange to have the software updated, free of charge.
