The defect
Some of these motorcycles may have been assembled with a top engine mount bracket assembly that has a resonant frequency equivalent to 5800 RPM engine speed, causing the ignition switch to turn off during operation at that engine speed.
The hazard
When the engine is operated at 5800 RPM, it can cause excessve vibration in the ignition switch and move it from the 'lGN' (ignition on) position to the 'ACC' (accessory only) position, thereby shutting the engine off and potentially posing a hazard due to the sudden loss of power.
The remedy
First confirm that the motorcycle is affected by this recall and if so, take the vehicle to a Harley Davidson dealer, who will replace the engine mount bracket assembly and ignition switch knob.Harley Davidson is contacting all affected owners.
