The defect

The parking brake lever may not engage correctly when the lever is pulled up because the teeth in the ratchet mechanism may balance on the tooth tops.

The hazard

The contact may be released by vibration, potentially causing the lever to be released due to inadequate spring force inside the ratchet mechanism and the vehicle may start to move, posing an accident hazard.

The remedy
