The defect

Due to a manufacturing issue, the front passenger airbag may be fitted with a faulty gas generator. As a result, the airbag may not deploy as intended.

The hazard

In the event of airbag deployment in an accident, the front passenger airbag may not provide adequate protection for vehicle occupants which could increase the risk of injury or death.

The remedy

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Volkswagen Group Australia to schedule an appointment with their nearest authorised Volkswagen dealership to have the airbag replaced, free of charge.
